A little surprise show
On Wednesday, Nuts + Berries will open for Quentin Young and his band at Quixote’s True Blue in Five Points. (That’s 2637 Welton St.) It’s my first time there. The show starts at about 9. If it costs money, I haven’t heard.
If you can’t make it, help me fill the Oriental Theater on May 7 instead.
NYT profiles a forgotten band
A Detroit band called Death is enjoying a renaissance. As the New York Times noted, the band “was punk before punk was punk.
Several of there songs are posted here. The track “Politicians in my Eyes” is pretty goddamn brutal. It has the bouncy bass and blunt guitar sound of punk, but with a little more groove than the Ramones or the Pistols. Very cool.
My favorite part of the NYT story: They were offered a record deal if they changed their name to something other than “Death.” They declined.
Their entire seven-song output is available on a new disc.
Thanks to Quentin for the link.
Live tonight: Quentin Young Band
The Quentin Young Band plays rock songs that sound a little like Blood on the Tracks”-era Bob Dylan, but a little more raucous. They’re playing Herman’s Hideaway, 1578 S. Broadway in Denver, at 8:30 tonight. Admission is $3.
I plan to attend.
