Had a great time at the Larimer Lounge show/EP release party Thursday night. They booked me on folk night, which was an interesting choice. I was sandwiched between several banjos, dobros and acoustic guitars. I don’t think I fit in.
It was a fun night. I debuted a new song called Meth Mouth that went over nicely. The bass was so loud it felt like I was being punched in the chest onstage. I loved it, especially after spending the last few days remixing many of the songs to add more low end. Nuts + Berries is starting to sound really bouncy. Thanks to those who came.
The setlist:
Dayglo Cowtown / A Good Friend is Hard to Find / Feet in the Snow / Meth Mouth / The Edgar Song / Your Whole Garden Sprouts / Arch Deluxxx / Forgive Your Hometown / The 1st Year Sex Didn’t Sell / Flevoland

Nuts + Berries got some kind words from Examiner.com. Denver Indie Rock Examiner Alli Sands was a lot of fun to talk to, and she got the feature posted just in time to plug the Larimer Lounge show tonight. Tickets here. Show at 9. Read more…
The Nuts + Berries EP is slowly popping up on several online music retailers.
It’s on sale at Amazon and the iTunes store. More stores coming soon. And I’ll be selling download cards at my show at the Larimer Lounge on Feb. 12.
The show at the Meadowlark Bar was strange. My impression of the Meadowlark was always that it was a small, intimate venue mainly for acoustic acts. But there were plenty of loud bands, too. I tried to play some more subdued songs — sort of a Nuts + Berries unplugged show — but the bouncy songs seemed to go over surprisingly well. Either way, it was a good night to trot out “Smooch from the Sky,” this weird synth harp thing I wrote last summer, for the first time live.
It was nice to see some old friends, including the gang from Fell. And I met James Irvine, the very nice talent booker for the Larimer Lounge (where I’ll be playing on Thursday, Feb. 13).
The setlist:
Your Whole Garden Sprouts/Smooch From the Sky/A Good Friend is Hard to Find/Feet in the Snow/Arch Deluxxx/The Edgar Song/Forgive Your Hometown/Look at all the Progress
Photos coming soon, I hope…
A bootleg mp3 of the final song from Bedsit Infamy’s Saturday show at the Larimer Lounge is available on the band’s MySpace page. Click on “Appleby live.” Listen closely and you’ll hear a few stray drunks singing along.
The Bedsit Infamy rehearsed Friday night because our show is 10 p.m. tonight at the Larimer Lounge. Let me show you what it’s like to be in this band.
Billy shows off his guitar chops:
Ian plays the drums even though he’s tired:
Brad screws around on iTunes between songs (and during songs with long breaks in the bass part).
Thanks to
Sara for the photos.
Hope to see some of you at the show tonight. Tickets are
here.
The Bedsit Infamy is playing a hastily scheduled show at the Larimer Lounge at 10 p.m. Saturday. I’ll be playing bass, as usual. I generally save the laptop for Nuts + Berries, although we are using it for some loops on the new songs.
Hear some of our songs here.

Tom Murphy at Westword wrote a very nice preview of my Dec. 17 show at the Larimer Lounge. I’m flattered beyond words.
Problem is, the Larimer canned the show so they could have a Christmas problem. This makes the cancelled show sting a little more. Ho ho ho.
