Looks like Billy Armijo’s hard at work on the next Bedsit Infamy release. Here’s a moody video snippet of a song tentatively called “Late Out Tonight” that has a sort of chillwave, downtempo influence. Very different from most Bedsit tracks, and I can’t wait to hear how it turns out. I think I played the bass part on this clip, but I tracked it months ago, so it’s cool to hear it again. Looks like Billy’s taking a break from his other studio project, which is mixing the upcoming Nuts + Berries LP.
Excuse my enthusiasm for this teensy clip. You’ll hear the whole thing when it’s ready. (Nice synths, Bill.)
A new song by the Bedsit Infamy is up. Visit the band’s MySpace page and click on “Hey! Hey!” in the music player. Hope you like it.
The song will appear on the band’s next LP, if there is another LP.

Like Nuts + Berries, Bedsit will perform May 7 at the Oriental Theater.
I played a Nuts + Berries show at the Meadowlark two weeks ago. In case you missed it…
Forgive Your Hometown/Look at all the Progress/A Better Mousetrap/A Good Friend is Hard to Find/Meth Mouth/Flevoland/1st Year/The Edgar Song/Arch Deluxxx
I keep these so I can make sure I don’t play the same setlist twice. It was a fun show with lots of showboating and horseplay.
Next up, a May 7 show at the Oriental Theater with The Bedsit Infamy and others. Hope to see you there. There might be another show before then, too. Exciting stuff.
Bedsit Infamy had a great show last Thursday with Little Dead Things. A Sara Armijo photo:

I tossed the bass on the floor for one of the songs, but this wasn’t taken during that song.
We played every song incredibly fast. Live debut of “The Airport, The Hospital and Mexico” from the LP. We’ve finally played every song off the record live. It only took a year.
Next up for Bedsit: A show at the Oriental Theater on May 7.
Friday’s show with Nuts + Berries, The Bedsit Infamy and Hideaway Folk Family was a blast.
HAFF played a set that was almost eerily quiet, and opened with an a capella tune. They brought a ton of people with them to the Old Curtis Steet Bar and had a solid first show, wearing (mostly) matching tops. It was exciting to hear the songs in person after listening to them on lo-fi demos and Internet video.
During my Nuts + Berries set, lots of exciting stuff happened. One woman plugged her ears and walked out in disgust. Some people from the HAFF gang hopped up and started dancing during the last third of the set. At one point, a basehead came to the stage mid-set, told me he understood how hard it was to play music by yourself, and offered me a hit of crack after the show. He returned at the end of the set, admitted he had smoked the rock during the final song and handed me a Pabst instead. I didn’t drink it. A lot of people seemed to like “The Edgar Song,” which I have to start recording soon. And I played “Forgive Your Hometown” live for the first time.

Matt Christian of Hideaway Folk Family did a poster for the Jan. 2 show…
I’m waiting to get the Nuts + Berries EP back from the mastering session at West West Side Music outside NYC. I came across this very relevant and slightly sad Rolling Stone article from a year ago on the death of high fidelity. I’m not some audiophile who thinks everything has to sound crystal clear — I love my Hank Williams and Chuck Berry albums. But it’s interesting that mp3 technology is demonstrating that music buyers want convenience over quality, even if an mp3 album is only slightly cheaper than a CD. Read more…

I’m getting interested in doing a string of Nuts + Berries or Bedsit songs that would play back to back like a DJ mix. But it would be original material, not a selection of other people’s songs. I think it’s within reach.
I got extra excited about this after listening to a DJ mix by Shit Robot that’s posted here, along with some other cool DFA mixes. Vive le Shit Robot.
